World Savings Day 2026: One World, Multiple Currencies — Staying Organised Across Borders

Your life may cross borders. Your money often does too.

You might earn in one currency, have family commitments in another and keep money aside for future plans somewhere else. Add travel, education, property or international work into the mix, and it is easy to find yourself managing several currencies at the same time.

For World Savings Day on 31 October, we are looking at something that matters increasingly to internationally mobile customers: how to keep different currencies organised without treating every part of your financial life separately.

One life, more than one currency

Managing money internationally is not always about exchanging one currency for another.

Sometimes you may want to keep GBP available for expenses in the UK while holding USD for future commitments. You might receive HKD or SGD regularly and prefer to keep those funds in their original currency until you need them.

That is where visibility can make a difference.

With our Multi-Currency Current Account, you can hold 11 supported currencies in one account: GBP, USD, EUR, HKD, SGD, CNY, JPY, CHF, AED, CAD and AUD. You can view and manage them through online banking or the iFAST GB Mobile App.

Rather than automatically converting incoming money into a single currency, this gives you a clearer view of what you hold across different currencies and lets you decide when you need to use or exchange them.

Keep the money you need accessible

Not every part of your money has the same purpose.

Some funds may be there for upcoming bills, travel or everyday expenses. Others may simply need to remain readily available because you are not sure when you will need them.

Our Multi-Currency Current Account provides instant access to supported currency balances, with no maximum deposit amount. Interest accrues on eligible balances and is credited monthly, with rates varying by currency and subject to change.

The important distinction is flexibility.

You can keep different currencies visible within the same banking relationship while retaining access to the money when you need it.

For anyone managing life across countries, that can make it easier to understand not just how much money you have, but where it is held and in which currency.

What about money you do not need immediately?

There may also be money that has a different job.

Perhaps you already know you will not need to access a particular balance for a defined period. A Fixed Term Deposit works differently from an instant-access account because the applicable interest rate is fixed for the term you select.

With us, Fixed Term Deposits are available across a range of supported currencies and terms. Current term options vary by currency, with available periods ranging from 1 month to 60 months.

The key difference is access.

Once money is placed into a Fixed Term Deposit, early withdrawal before maturity is generally not permitted except in exceptional circumstances and may result in the loss of accrued interest and a penalty. A 14-day cooling-off period applies from application.

So rather than thinking of an instant-access account and a Fixed Term Deposit as interchangeable, it can be useful simply to understand the role each one is designed to play.

One keeps money accessible.

The other gives you certainty over the applicable interest rate for a defined period, in return for placing restrictions on access.

Which structure is appropriate depends on your own circumstances and when you expect to need the money.

Organising currencies can be as important as choosing them

It can be tempting to focus only on interest rates when looking at savings products.

But when you regularly deal with several currencies, organisation matters too.

Ask yourself practical questions such as:

  • Which currencies do I receive or use regularly?
  • Which balances do I need access to in the near future?
  • Are there funds I already know I will not need for a defined period?
  • Do I have future commitments denominated in a particular currency?
  • Would converting the money now create an unnecessary currency conversion?

There is no single answer that applies to everyone.

The objective is not necessarily to hold as many currencies as possible. It is to understand what each balance is for, how accessible it needs to be and how it fits into your wider financial arrangements.

With our Multi-Currency Current Account, supported currencies can sit together in one place, helping you keep a clearer view of money that might otherwise be spread across different accounts and markets.

For UK residents, there is also the ISA option

If you are a UK resident with valid NINO, you may also be familiar with Individual Savings Accounts, or ISAs.

We offer both Flexible Cash ISA and Fixed Rate Cash ISA products. Eligibility requirements apply, including UK residency, age requirements and a valid National Insurance Number. ISA contributions and tax treatment are also subject to HMRC rules and the annual ISA allowance.

Our Flexible Cash ISA allows eligible customers to access their money and, subject to HMRC rules, replace withdrawn funds within the same tax year without using additional annual allowance. Fixed Rate Cash ISAs work differently, with the interest rate fixed for the selected term.

An ISA is a UK-specific product, so it should be considered separately from the multi-currency options available to our international customer base.

One view can make a global financial life feel simpler

Living internationally can mean thinking in more than one currency.

Your salary might arrive in one. Your next trip might require another. Family, education or property commitments may involve another again.

You do not necessarily need every part of that money to behave in the same way.

Some may need to remain accessible. Some may be suitable for a defined fixed term. And, for eligible UK residents, some GBP savings may sit within an ISA.

World Savings Day is a useful opportunity to look beyond individual balances and consider how your money is organised as a whole.

With iFAST Global Bank, you can bring multiple supported currencies together in one banking relationship, see them in one place and manage each according to what you need it for.

Because when your life crosses borders, keeping your money organised can make the bigger picture much easier to see.
