Someone asks you to install remote-access software
Remote access scams
Fraudsters may ask you to install remote-access software, such as AnyDesk or TeamViewer, to gain visibility of your device and influence your banking activity. This can result in your funds being moved to fraudsters or cryptocurrency platforms.
Stay vigilant. Stay in control.
What to watch out for
You are pressured to act quickly
You are promised guaranteed or unusually high returns
You are asked to keep the matter confidential
You are guided through banking activity over the phone
You are asked to move money to a "safe" account
You are instructed what to say to your bank
Someone remains connected while you log in or make payments
How remote access scams work
Initial contact
A fraudster contacts you pretending to be an investment adviser, bank representative or technical support agent.
Software installation
You are instructed to download and install software that allows another person to remotely control your device.
Access gained
The fraudster connects to your device and can view your screen and activity.
You are guided
You are guided to log in, make payments or move money to "investment" accounts.
Funds are moved
Money is sent to fraudsters or cryptocurrency platforms and may be difficult to recover.

Why it’s risky
- Fraudsters can see everything on your screen in real time
- They can influence or instruct you while you bank
- Payments to your own accounts can still be part of a scam
- Once money is sent to cryptocurrency platforms, it is often irreversible
